Newborn Models Needed For Workshop!

Hey, all you faithful blog readers out there. I'm appealing to you once again for help finding newborn models. If you, or any one you know, is expecting a baby from approximately mid-September until mid-October, I would love to here about it! I am hosting a newborn photography workshop on October 6th, and require newborn models. Candidates must be under 3 weeks of age by the class date. Selected participants will receive a complimentary newborn session, in addition to up to five 8x10 prints. A signed model release will be required, as the photographers will be using the images for their portfolios etc.

Although baby had slept all the way from Cornwall, Ontario, she still gave us some sound sleepy time. And when she was awake, she was wide-eyed with wonderment......so it's all good! :)

I had another fantastic time yesterday, photographing yet another three beautiful newborns! My workshop attendee Aya, from Calgary, was an absolute delight to mentor! And does she have an eye?! I was very impressed! And a special thank you to our wonderful models and their very proud parents, who made our workshop a success! And thanks to all of you who expressed an interest in having your baby model. I was fortunate enough to have over 40 interested applicants for the three newborn workshops I hosted this month. What a blast I had hosting my first newborn photography workshop yesterday! I was thrilled to mentor a lovely photographer from Thunder Bay, Ontario. We spent the morning with the little boy, in my natural light studio (first three images), and then moved into my regular studio for the little girl (last two images). He started off the session wide-eyed, as if with wonderment, but eventually sleep found him....and hopefully, later on, his new parents too! ;)

This little girl was definitely one of the most beautiful newborns I have ever had the pleasure of photographing. With a full head of wispy dark hair, porcelain skin, and perfect features, she just took my breath away! And at 3 weeks old, she was still a sleepy little babe, much to my delight!

Has it really been 3 months already since "M's" last session?! Wow! Time is just flying by, and she is growing so quickly! Well, as you can see,"M" appeared to enjoy my "LOVE" letters as much as I enjoyed creating this storyboard for her. And does she not look adorable in her little tutu?! This lovely family braved our latest winter snow storm, and made the trek out to my studio this morning. Well, I am so glad they did! We were able to capture some beautiful images, which I hope they will be very happy with. And just when I had lost all hope that we had gotten many good shots of their adorable, "lightning fast" two-year-old, I discovered this gem (top). I think it speaks volumes, and I love it! Mom, this one's for you! ;)

This pretty little girl was so alert and expressive! The first image, in the trio above, was from a series of close ups, shot with my macro lens. I really wanted to capture her sweet expressions, of which there were many! And it had been a while since I used my yellow flower blanket, but I had a hunch this l'il one would look adorable in it! And don't you just love those little piggies?!

This sweet little boy definitely felt safe in daddy's arms. Does he not look so cozy and comfortable? At 8 days old, he was, without a doubt, one of my favourite newborns to photograph ever! Not only was he incredibly beautiful, he slept so well for us too. He also curled up so nicely, and barely made a peep the entire session. I couldn't believe our luck!

Today's on-location, natural light session, brought me to the home of this sweet little 9-day-old baby girl. I knew I had the right address when I pulled up to discover a lovely array of pink balloons adorning the front door. Having two boys already, mom is overjoyed to now have a little girl. And there is no question she is going to love pink! ;)

This fun-loving duo defined the very special bond that exists between mothers and daughters. There was an obvious affection between them, and they had a great sense of humour, which really lightened the mood and helped create a fun and lively portrait session. Miss "K," who is in town visiting, will soon be returning to her studies, where she is pursuing a Master's Degree in international relations. Leaving is always bitter-sweet. Her mom will surely miss her, but I'm certain that she couldn't be more proud. ;)

This tiny newborn was, without a doubt, one of my favorites to photograph to date! Not only was she exquisitely beautiful, she slept so well for us too! The images in the storyboard were shot using natural light, and the "low key" images were shot in the studio. Both light sources played beautifully upon her. And how could they not? ;)

Earlier today I had an on-location, natural light session with this adorable 5-month-old baby and his older sister. What a little ham he was! It's so cute at this age, how they love to "eat" their fingers! It's all about discovery, and discover he did! His older sister loved the camera, and was a very willing subject. Tiny Newborn

I absolutely loved this session! This tiny newborn, who weighed a little over 6 lbs at birth, was just the most amazingly beautiful baby! He had the most enormous newborn eyes that I've ever seen, and he looked directly into the lens, which is rare for a newborn. And, for first-time parents, his mommy and daddy were super relaxed and easy going. They really embraced the whole creative process, which helped us achieve some beautiful and powerful images.

Omgosh, this little guy was just the cutest kid ever! He had these big blue eyes and an even bigger smile. And he was so happy! Yes, ok, I did resort to my ridiculous antics at one point, but he was so easy to please. Mom brought along some adorable outfits too, which only added to the cuteness factor.

This mommy-to-be must have booked me when she was like five minutes pregnant! Lol. That's how excited she was....and is! She and her husband are expecting their first child later this month, and their enthusiasm was palpable. She was radiant and definitely glowing, and he was obviously enamored with her and her beautiful belly!

Yes, t'is the season! I've had lots of families recently gearing up for Christmas with portraits and holiday cards. This sweet couple and their two adorable boys, made for a...well..."picture perfect" Christmas card! Oh, and as you can see, they're expecting baby number three! One couldn't ask for a more wonderful Christmas gift!

It was such a pleasure to photograph this lovely couple and their three-year-old twin daughters. And mom had them dressed to the nines, which I absolutely loved!

The first image, above, was one of my favorites. I love the sweet smile and soulfulness of the girl on the right, and her sister genuinely seemed entertained by my ridiculous antics! lol. Girls, I hope you had as much fun as I did, and that you will come visit me again sometime. :)

This handsome little fellow was a mere 6 days old when I photographed him recently. What a beautiful little baby! Mom and Dad had requested simple black and white portraits, and I was more than happy to oblige. I love the poignancy of such images. They really capture the innocence, fragility, and vulnerability of a tiny newborn; and this little one was no exception. Sweet baby, you were such a little trooper! I have a feeling you will sleep very well tonight! ;)

This sweet little girl, whom I had photographed last week, dropped by again yesterday for a few more pics. What a treat to welcome yet another beautiful, wide-eyed baby into my studio! The first pic, in the trio above, was probably my favorite from her session. The crimson silk just contrasted so elegantly with her porcelain skin, crystal blue eyes, and long, dark lashes! She truly reminds me of a baby "Snow White!"

At 4 weeks, this little one was so alert and expressive, and I'm certain that she even smiled for us....but of course, not when I had the camera ready. I had so much fun this morning, photographing this awesome family! The sons are very musical and play a variety of instruments, so the song title just came to mind. They all had a great sense of humour and really seemed to enjoy each other's company. The brothers were full of good-natured teasing, and mom and dad were just like high school sweethearts. There is definitely a lot of love in this family! Oh, and sorry ladies....rumor has it these brothers are spoken for! ;)

Mom and I had such fun spiking it up for his head shots. Not too many one-week-olds get so much attention paid to their coiffure! Well, baby "M," I, for one, think you look fabulous, and I'm sure mom and dad will agree!

Well, this lovely couple certainly has something to be thankful for! They are expecting their second child very soon. Yesterday I had the pleasure of photographing them and their adorable 3-year-old son. Well, you can tell by the expression on his face (above), that he was a real spunky little guy! He can't wait to meet his new baby brother...or sister, and I can tell he'll be a great big "bro!" Happy thanksgiving everyone!

Blonde newborns are quite rare, so I was pleasantly surprised when mom removed his little hat, to reveal a full head of golden locks! What an absolutely beautiful baby! He was such a little angel, and slept like one too. And when he was awake, he was very alert! Little one, you were such a delight to photograph. I do hope you will come back and visit me again. I would love to see you grow!

Enchanting Miss "A"

"Enchanting" is the first word that comes to mind when I think about describing this adorable little girl. I was delighted when Miss "A" came back to visit me today, and was very impressed by how much she had grown and developed in just two short months! She is now walking and talking and showing so much spunky personality! Well, little Miss "A," I think your parents are going to have a very difficult time choosing from the many great expressions you gave us today. I know I did! You are just way too cute!

Brand New

Earlier today I was fortunate enough to receive yet another sleepy newborn into my studio. It must be these beautiful hot Ottawa fall days that just lull them off to sleep. Or perhaps it's my new baby poser that they seem to love so much. Well, whatever it is, I'm just grateful! They never slept this well in Calgary! Anyway, please meet baby "M." This little 10-day-old sweetheart was just good as gold and barely made a peep the entire session! In addition to his mommy, he brought along his grandparents, which was so nice, because I rarely have an opportunity to photograph Grandmas and Grandpas with their newborn grandchildren. And they can make for some of the most poignant images. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa for coming along!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of photographing this sweet baby girl. What a dream! At 13 days old, she was your quintessential sleepy baby, and slept throughout most of the session. I don't think I've ever had such a good little sleeper! Will you be as good for your parents and sleep throughout the night? ;)
